About Us
Red Hawk Rise Organics was founded in 2017 by Katie Brownell and Mike Herbst. We are located halfway between Harpers Ferry and Shepherdstown on the beautiful Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. We have both been growing and working with food for 15+ years and are excited to be running our own business based on this passion! We will be relocating the farm to Washington County, Vermont in summer 2024.
Growing Methods
We are proud to be a USDA Certified Organic farm! As a result, we emphasize sustainability and environmental awareness in all of our farming practices. We aim to keep our crops happy by encouraging a healthy balance between what we are growing and the naturally-occurring ecosystem around us. We never use chemical pesticides and focus on preventative methods to stop problems before they happen rather than reacting to them once they do. We use composting, green manure, and minimal tillage to encourage healthy soil and thus healthy plants.
